Health Ministry Dispatches a Team of Medics to Treat Rwandans Tortured in Uganda
The Ministry of Health has announced that it has dispatched a team of medical doctors to treat nine Rwandans who were on Wednesday set free by Uganda – following lengthy detention in unknown facilities in Uganda.
The 9 Rwandans arrived back in the country at exactly 12:15 am through Gatuna border in Gicumbi district in Northern Rwanda.
They include Rene Rutagungira, who was among the first Rwandans to be arrested in Uganda. Others are Herman Nzeyimana, Nelson Mugabo, Etienne Nsanzabahizi, Emmanuel Rwamucyo, Augustine Rutayisire, Adrien Munyagabe, Gilbert Urayeneza, and Claude Iyakaremye.
During their stay in Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) detention centers, the nine Rwandans were allegedly tortured and beaten. Rwanda had announced they will be accorded medical attention.
The Ministry did not reveal the names of hospitals where the victims were taken. “We avoid exposing patients’ privacy,”
