The government of Rwanda confirms the arrest of Callixte Nsabimana 'Sankara'
Self proclaimed Major Callixte Nsabimana alias Sankara who claimed to be the leader of the so called National Forces for Liberation(FLN) of Rwanda, was arrested a couple of weeks ago, and will be brought before court soon, Richard Sezibera, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has confirmed.
This was also announced by Rwanda Investigation Bureau on Tuesday, as the latter twitted the accuracy of information.
It was recently announced that Callixte Sankara was arrested in Comoros Islands with the help of Rwandan security agents but there has been no confirmation from the Rwanda governement to confirm the authenticity of the news.
In a statement this morning, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) said they have “detained NSABIMANA Callixte a.k.a Sankara, while processing his criminal case file. Nsabimana has been wanted over several offences committed on Rwandan territory.”
The crimes, according to RIB, include: Creation of an irregular armed group; complicity in committing terrorist acts; conspiracy and incitement to commit terrorist acts; taking persons hostage; murder; and looting.
“Nsabimana’s case file will be submitted to the National Public Prosecution Authority in accordance with Rwandan criminal procedure law,” RIB statements said.
This The self-styled army major was part of a terrorist group operating from the Democratic Republic of Congo and in close cooperation with elements—including Rwanda National Congress and FDLR seeking to destabilise Rwanda.
Callixte Sankara has been reported recently to have conquered some parts of Nyungwe forest bordering Burundi.
Paul Kagame recently announced that he was going to fight against anyone who would disturb peace in the Nyungwe Forest, then a few days later Sankara was reported to have been captured.
