Deputy President William Ruto is yet to respond to claims raised by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga that he was paying political leaders to join Kenya Kwanza.
Instead, Mr Ruto who is the President-elect after he floored Mr Odinga in August 9, 2022, General elections went on receiving more political leaders into his camp.

The latest political leader who decamped Azimio la Umoja camp and joined the DP is former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
“We associate with the leadership that Prof Kivutha Kibwana has manifested in agreeing to work with us in furthering our country’s development agenda,” Mr Ruto said.
He also revealed that Prof Kibwana had agreed to join the Kenya Kwanza legal team in the ongoing presidential election petition.

Mr Odinga on Wednesday, August 25, claimed that Mr Ruto is buying politicians to join his camp.
Speaking in Mombasa while campaigning for Mr Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir the ODM Mombasa governorship candidate, Mr Odinga said that all the political leaders who have joined Kenya Kwanza were being given money to do so.

“Deputy President William Ruto is buying politicians to join his camp. The leaders who have joined Kenya Kwanza have been given money,” Mr Odinga, who was the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate, said.
Mr Odinga also said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati should not preside over the Mombasa and Kakamega counties governorship elections scheduled for Monday, August 29.

The ODM leader said that there is an active case in court questioning the suitability of Mr Chebukati to preside over subsequent elections following the disputed August 9, 2022, presidential elections results.

However, in a quick rejoinder IEBC through its official Twitter page said it was untrue that the IEBC chairman oversees elections in the counties.“The commission wishes to inform the public of the statements made today by former prime minister Raila Odinga with regard to the role of the chairman in the two governorship elections in Kakamega and Mombasa counties,” the electoral agency said.

IEBC further said that the two elections will be run by gazette returning officers as provided for by the law.
It said that the returning officer for Mombasa was Ibrahim Swalhah Yusuf and that for Kakamega County was Joseph Ayatta.
Mr Nassir will be battling it out for the Mombasa County top seat with Hassan Omar of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The elections in the two counties were to be held during the general election on August 9 but were pushed forward to August 23, after the commission realised a mistake in the ballot papers that were printed.
