University Of Rwanda To Fully Reopen In Three Weeks

Year 1 and 2 at University of Rwanda will return to school in three weeks time ending a-8 month interruption that was intended to prevent the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Ignatius Kabagambe, the Corporate Communication Specialist for the University of Rwanda, all the campuses will be ready to receive students from 30th November 2020.

The University of Rwanda reopened lecture rooms for finalist students including year 3, 4, and 5 on 19th October 2020.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, while speaking at a government press conference aimed at giving updates on the New Coronavirus National response and Economic recovery on 2nd October 2020, said that all universities and other levels of education would reopen gradually while taking precautionary measures.

“We decided to receive students and reopen lecture rooms in phases to able social distancing. The finalist students in year 5 will be completing their studies this month and leave, so there will be space for the second phase of students in year 2 and 1,” Kabagambe said.

“Year one and two students from various University of Rwanda campuses have different academic timetables, they will be informed by their respective campuses but, all campuses will be ready to receive students on 30th November 2020.”

Kabagambe added that students will be required to wear face masks and respect other preventive measures at the campuses including; handwashing, temperature testing, and hand sanitizing.

He said everything in lecture rooms, sitting arrangements were organized in a way that respects social distancing.

“I am very happy about the good news of returning to school this month. I have been missing it. I am prepared to resume studies, studying online was expensive, buying internet bundles was not easy,” Molly Muganwa, a bachelor’s degree student in public administration at the Huye campus said.
